Water filters are essential for ensuring access to clean, drinkable water. However, after a period of use, they need to be replaced. What do we do with used filters? Fortunately, there are alternatives to throwing them in the trash, helping to conserve resources and protect the environment.

Types of water filters:

• Pitcher filters: Inserted into filter pitchers and filter water as you pour it in. This is the simplest filtration method, but it is not highly effective. It only removes sediment and chlorine.
• Refrigerator filters: Installed inside the refrigerator (or before it) and provide filtered water to the fridge's tank/reservoir.
• Under-sink filters: Under-sink systems provide filtered water continuously at the tap. These filtration systems contain between 1 and 5 filter elements (cartridges). The filtered water flows through a dedicated single or 3-way faucet.
• Whole-house filters: Installed in the utility room or at the main water entry point. They filter water throughout the entire home. Depending on your needs, you can use housings with sediment filters, water softeners, anti-chlorine, UV sterilizers, etc.
• Water purifiers: More complex systems capable of removing a wide range of contaminants. These systems work through reverse osmosis and purify water by up to 99.8%.

There are buy-back options for old and used filtration systems, as well as the possibility of returning old filters to our premises. Drop-off can be done in person or by courier. However, courier delivery is more costly and more polluting than the recycling benefit itself.
• Recycling centers: There are companies specializing in plastic and metal recycling. You can search online or contact your local recycling center to find out if they accept water filters. However, when dropping off at a recycling center, keep in mind that the filter components must be separated (plastic, metal, filter media, etc.).
• Reuse: Some filter components, such as housings, can be reused for various DIY projects. They can even be reloaded with new filter media.
• Donating the system: If you want to completely replace your filtration system but it is still functional, we recommend donating it. Of course, it would be ideal to sanitize it first and replace all consumable parts.
• Disposing of filters in recycling bins: If returning to the manufacturer, to a recycling center, or reuse is not possible, then the only correct way to dispose of used filters is to sort them into the appropriate bins. The filter components must be separated: plastic, metal, filter media, paper, etc. Plastic and metal go into dedicated recycling bins, while paper and filter media go into general household waste, as they cannot be recycled.
