Guide to Installing a Water Filter (Step by Step)

If you are reading this page, it means you have already made a very good decision that will considerably improve your life. You can forget about carrying water bottles. From now on, you will always have still water at home. Affordable and convenient.

If you have chosen a drinking water filtration system, in this article I will explain in detail how to install it. Of course, installing such a system requires a little skill, but I assure you it is not difficult at all. If, after reading this article, you feel you cannot manage, I recommend calling a specialist plumber.

First, you need to check whether the water filter you purchased includes all the parts required for installation. All our systems come with a tee connector and a supply valve, connecting hoses, filter housings, filter cartridges, and a filtered water faucet. If all these parts are in the package, inspect them carefully to make sure none are cracked or defective. Sometimes minor issues occur during transport. If you notice anything wrong, please contact us.

The first step in installing a water filter is finding a suitable location for it. The best place is inside the cabinet under the sink. There is enough space there so it will not be in the way at all. Once you have identified this spot, locate the cold water valve where the supply line connected to your existing sink faucet is threaded in.

The second step is to install the filter supply valve. Turn off the cold water using the valve you already have installed. Then, using an adjustable wrench, unscrew the flexible hose that leads to your existing faucet. Inside the filter package there is a chrome fitting with 3 openings (tee connector). Apply PTFE tape or hemp to the threads and then screw this fitting in place of the flexible hose. Next, screw the flexible hose back into the other end of the tee. In the middle there is a small opening (1/4") where the brass valve (which supplies the filter) will be screwed in. Seal the thread using the PTFE tape included in the package. Tighten the valve securely. A flexible hose runs from the valve.

The third step is to mount the filtered water faucet. This faucet is necessary because filtered water must flow through a separate path from unfiltered water. In practice, if it flowed through the same path, it would become contaminated again. For installation, a 12 mm hole must be drilled in the countertop or in the sink. Choose a location where it will be easy for you to operate this faucet. If the sink is round, I recommend mounting it in the countertop; if you have a rectangular sink, a corner of it is ideal. Follow the faucet installation diagram to see the correct order of the parts. A flexible hose connects to the faucet.

The fourth step is the actual assembly of the water filter. If you have chosen a compact filtration system, this step is essentially already done at the factory. You can move on to step five.

If you have chosen a classic water filter (3 large housings), you need to place the filter cartridges into the housings. Pay attention to the order of the cartridges. The most important is the first cartridge. This must be the sediment cartridge (polypropylene or ceramic). The second cartridge is usually the softening or block activated carbon one. The third is the granular activated carbon cartridge. Unseal the cartridges and place each one into its housing (bowl). Tighten them firmly using the wrench included in the package.

Important notes for classic water filters:

• Install all gaskets from the package correctly. Some systems come with double gaskets for each housing.
• Tighten all cartridges firmly using the wrench included in the package.
• After installing the pre-filter cartridges, perform a pre-flush to prevent premature clogging of the post-filters (ultrafiltration membrane, alkaline filter, etc.). See the following paragraph for instructions on how to perform the pre-flush.
• Cartridges must be centered in each housing.
• Post-filter cartridges should only be installed after the pre-flush.

The fifth step is pre-flushing the cartridges. This is done by connecting the filter to the supply hose and the faucet hose to the outlet (in the case of classic filters, to the 3rd housing). Let the water run for approximately 10 minutes. After this time, you can connect the post-filters and move the faucet hose to the last cartridge.

During the first few hours, the water may flow slightly white. Do not worry. These are just air bubbles in suspension. From now on, you can fully enjoy clean water. Every day you will have your own source of still water right in your kitchen.
